Two suspects were on Monday arraigned before an Eldoret court facing robbery with violence charges.
The two, Peter Kinuthia Maina and Cyrus Amwai Ganani are accused of robbing Likuyani Member of Parliament Enoch Kibunguchy a motor vehicle and a mobile phone valued at Sh1.5 million.
According to the prosecution, the crime was committed on the night of 12th and 13th of August this year at Soy Highway Motel in Likuyani sub-county within Kakamega county.
The suspects are said to have robbed the MP his Mitsubishi vehicle valued at Sh1.5 million and a Samsung Galaxy J7 mobile phone valued at Sh45,000 while armed with an AK47.
Appearing before the Eldoret Chief Magistrate Charles Obultsa, the two pleaded not guilty. The case would however not proceed to hearing after errors were detected in the charge sheet.
It was ordered that the suspects remain in remand until September 13 when the hearing of the case will proceed.
The two suspects were arrested after an incident in which the MP’s car was attacked by unknown people who killed the driver before escaping with it.
The car was a few hours later found abandoned in Soy constituency, Uasin Gishu county, a few kilometres from the scene of the incident.
During the incident, the legislator is said to have been meeting his constituents at the Soy Highway Motel which is located along the Eldoret-Kitale road.
