Kandara MP Alice Wahome has hit out at the Interior Ministry citing intimidation through the withdrawal of security detail for a section of MPs.
Wahome railed at the Interior CS Dr Fred Matiang'i and PS Karanja Kibicho for withdrawing her security detail together with that of several other MPs among them Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri, Kimani Ichung'wa (Kikuyu), Governor Ferdinand Waititu (Kiambu) and Nakuru Senator Susan Kihika.
Speaking on Monday at NTV's Am Live show, she said termed the move as ridiculous and one that exposes MPs to untold danger.
"I think Matiangi is behind this together with the Permanent Secretary because as Members of Parliament, we are marked as VIPs due to the nature of work we are doing," said the Kandara MP.
Wahome added that the issue should not be taken lightly as it shows how political inclinations are taking shape even among public servants like Kibicho and Matiang'i.
Police spokesperson Charles Owino in a rejoinder dismissed the claims noting that the service was only reshuffling the bodyguards assigned to the politicians.
Several quarters from Jubilee have decried the move saying that it is inspired by the politicians' support for Deputy President William Ruto's bid for the presidency in 2022.
