Keiyo South MP Daniel Rono has condemned the technical committee that looked into the viability of Kimwarer dam construction.
Speaking in Eldoret town on Friday Rono said the move was to cancel the project as ordered by President Uhuru Kenyatta was uncalled for and a major blow to the people of Keiyo South since the project could have helped over 30,000 residents.
“As the area MP, I am saddened by the move by the technical committee. Where did they get the information yet they never even visited the place where the project is supposed to be done?” questioned Rono.
The technical committee was chaired by Infrastructure Principal Secretary Paul Maringa.
“The committee did not even consult the leadership of Elgeyo Marakwet. We know the committee was formed for a solid purpose of killing the project,” added the Keiyo South MP.
He, however, said that leaders from Elgeyo Marakwet will lead a delegation to President Uhuru to ask him to send qualified people who will see if the dam is viable or not.
Rono further said they will not live any stone unturned until they ensure Uhuru gets proper information on Kimwarer dam.
He called on residents to stay calm as the issue is being looked into.
In his directive for cancellation, Uhuru cited that the dam project was overpriced and was not technically nor financially viable.
