Kamar hosted maize farmers on Thursday in Ziwa, Soy sub-county.

In a post on her Facebook page, the Senator listed challenges that maize farmers are currently experiencing including the Strategic Grains Reserves' allocating of a meagre 4,800 bags capacity, meaning one bag per farmer and vetting requirements, which cannot be applicable to farmers who lease land.

"It is high time the government starts paying attention to farmers in order to fully achieve the big four agenda," she noted.

In the meeting, Prof. Kamar disclosed that a Senate report on maize crisis that was collected during 'senate mashinani' in Uasin Gishu, Transnzoia, Nandi and Bungoma counties suggests vetting to be done at grassroots by elders.

She, however, challenged farmers to join a cooperative society which had constructed its own milling plant in order to avoid problems in future.

"I am also encouraging farmers from this region to join Moi-soy cooperative (who have come up with their own milling plant) to end all these problems facing us as farmers," reads part of the facebook post.
