Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui has finally bowed to pressure and suspended embattled Nakuru County CEC for Sports Youth Gender and Social services Halima Gababa Abdullahi over allegations of gross misconduct.
In a statement on Thursday, Kinyanjui suspended Gababa for a period of 60 days pending investigations into the allegations. Gababa has been accused of insubordination, arrogance and infighting with her chief officer.
She is one of the CECs that the county assembly rejected after Governor Kinyanjui forwarded names of his nominees upon assuming office. She was later to be approved after the county boss held a consultative meeting with MCAs.
Recently youths in Nakuru pointed an accusing finger at her after she openly opposed the International youth week celebrations which were later held after governor Kinyanjui intervened.
Although Gababa maintained her innocence then, pressure has continued to pile up on governor lee Kinyanjui to fire the CEC altogether.
The governor has also forwarded to the county assembly the names of Dr Zakayo Gichuki Kariuki as the nominee for CEC health services and Francis Mwangi Njuguna as CEC nominee for Lands housing and Physical planning.
Dr. Gichuki is currently the interim County Director of Health Nyandarua County and has previously worked as a medical officer of health in Nakuru.
If successful, Gichuki will take over from Dr Jonah Manjari who left office after he was appointed the CEO of the Kenya medical supplies Authority- KEMSA.
Francis Mwangi - an advocate based in Nakuru and a former chairman of the Rift Valley law society if successful will hold the lands docket currently being substantially held by Eng. Lucy Kariuki.
