Olunga’s delay in joining his colleagues for preparations ahead of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, set to start on June 21, was caused by his Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol threatening not to release him for the national team duty.

The former Gor Mahia striker has become a key figure in Reysol’s side that is taking part in the Japanese second tier league, after being relegated from the top flight league last season.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) had on Tuesday sought the FIFA Player Status Department’s intervention for the release of Olunga.

“FKF however, reached an amicable decision with Reysol, one that will see Olunga check into camp on Thursday,” FKF said in a statement on its official website.

The striker’s arrival will mean the camp will be full house ahead of the upcoming friendly matches against Madagascar on June 7, 2019, in Paris, and against the Democratic Republic of Congo on June 15, 2019, in Madrid, Spain.

The team will leave for Cairo, Egypt, on June 19, 2019, in time for the continental tournament.

Harambee Stars is in Group C alongside Senegal, Tanzania and Algeria.
