Duale, a teacher by profession, joined active politics in 2007.

He contested the Dujis parliamentary seat and won it on the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party.

In 2013, he won the Garissa parliamentary seat and retained it in the 2017 polls.

Duale has served in various top positions in government.

Here are top positions Duale has so far occupied in government.

1. Assistant Minister for Livestock 

In 2008 under the coalition government, retired president Mwai Kibaki in consultation with former Prime Minister Raila Odinga appointed Duale as the Assistant Minister for Livestock.

2. ODM Party Vice chairman for Political Affairs 

In 2009, Duale was appointed as ODM Party Vice chairperson for political affairs before he fell out with Raila Odinga.

3. Director- Kenya Broadcasting Corporation

Duale was appointed KBC director in 1999, a position he held to 2003.

4. Livestock Marketing Society of Kenya- CEO

Duale was appointed as the CEO of the Livestock Marketing Society of Kenya in 2003.

He served in the position up to 2007 when he declared an interest in the Dujis parliamentary seat.

5. National Assembly Majority leader

Duale is the current leader of Majority in the National Assembly.

The Garissa Township’s political star is rising and is now among influential politicians who will determine who succeeds President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2022.

Duale is allied to Deputy President William Ruto and is considered as his close confidant.
