The leadership of Lamu East Constituency has issued an alert over the impending dangers of the ban on Mangrove tree cutting across the constituency.

There has been an ongoing ban of Mangrove tree cutting in the Sub-county in a bid to enhance dangers resulted by cutting of the trees.

Area MP Sharif Ali Athman, on Tuesday announced that the ban will end on January 2, 2019, sighing relief to Mangrove harvesters.

"My dear Lamu East people, it is with great honour and pleasure to announce to you the ban on Mangrove cutting will come to an end on 2.01.2019," said the lawmaker after hosting Deputy President William Ruto as he opened Pate Girl's High School in Faza ward.

He however, warned that harvesters must first acquire a license from County Forest offices before cutting down the tress which help to protect ocean waters.

"All mangrove harvesters are hereby required to obtain licences from county forest offices. This is impeccable news to all the people of Lamu East as the ban has adversely affected the entire region's economy," he added.
