If there is a list of people who were diametrically-opposed to referendum calls, the name of Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has to be at the top of the pile.
The outspoken legislator claimed that the calls were aimed at locking out Deputy President William Ruto from 2022.
He said, on more than one occasion, that the governing Jubilee Party would oppose a referendum.
But in what many see as a dramatic change of position, DP Ruto voiced his support for the referendum after months of railing against it.
Ruto's position now leaves Duale in a rather uncomfortable position.
Continuing with his resistance will run counter to his political master's changed position.
Abandoning his resistance and supporting it will cast him in negative light as a politician who has no principles.
What does he do in light of this development?
Nobody would want to be Duale now.
It would be a tough decision to make.
