Speaking during a meeting with clerics at Serena Hotel, Nairobi, Haji appealed to the leaders not to accept donations from questionable sources.

He noted that some leaders have been hoodwinking churches with these donations with the aim of winning the hearts of voters before the 2022 campaign.

Haji said that the church has to stand up against these leaders if the fight against the vice has to bear fruits.

“Such money is also taken to holy places as donations to gain support from the people,” he said.

Religious leaders from different denominations said they would support government efforts in fighting corruption.

During the meeting, the leaders discussed strategies that the office of the DPP has to embrace in the war to end the vice.

Anglican Church of Kenya (ACK) archbishop Jackson ole Sapit is among the religious leaders who have strongly condemned leaders donating cash from questionable sources to the church.

Deputy President William Ruto insisted that he will not stop supporting churches in fundraising. He also insisted that he is not corrupt amid accusations from leaders allied to ODM Leader Raila Amolo Odinga.
