Law enforcement authorities have confirmed a particularly gruesome crime that saw a 36-year-old woman stabbed not once but thrice in front of her child.
According to the Guardian report, the lady was in the process of pushing her child along Downtown Avenue when the assailant struck from behind.
Members of the public alerted the police to the shocking incident.
According to the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), the attacker did not utter a single word to the woman before stabbing her.
Arrests in connection with the stabbing have not yet been made but the law enforcement authorities believe that the suspect is a black man who is said to have been wearing dark clothing.
No motive has been assigned to the attack by the police, who say that they looking at the case with an open mind.
No suggestion of terrorism has been made.
"She was attacked from behind by a lone suspect, described as a black man, around 6ft tall and wearing dark clothing. The man did not speak as he stabbed the victim three times before running off down Downton Avenue away from the High Road. ‘Detectives from South Area CID are investigating. Extensive enquiries, including forensic work and CCTV analysis, are ongoing. At this stage, officers retain an open mind as to any motive, " a Metropolitan police spokesman said as quoted by the Metro publication.
Thankfully, the injuries sustained by the woman have been judged by medical experts to be non-life threatening injuries.
