The government has dropped charges against a group of Kisumu Girls students accused of destroying property at the learning institution.
According to State prosecutor Lazarus Sirtui, the damage in the school had already been paid for, a number of students suspended, and others expelled.
Reports indicate that a problem with identification of the culprits also led to the collapse of the case.
“The issue of identification might not meet requirements of evidence because it is a school with several children and identification could not be clear. And since this case is a children’s matter and we have to hear and conclude it within the specified period, we therefore seek that the matter be withdrawn,” said Mr Sirtui as quoted by Standard.
Mr Sirtui's application was accepted by Chief Magistrate Julius Ng’arng’ar in accordance with the set laws.
The students were arrested and taken to court after unrest at the school in June.
According to some students in the school, the administration had implemented tough rules in regards to entertainment.
