However, his woes soon began after his arrival in the Arab country.  His recruitment agency -  Samoline Recruitment Agency Limited - duped him, marking the beginning of a two-year journey of misery in a foreign country.

Kiprotich, 20, secured a job at Elite Company Limited where he worked for two months without pay. Upon demand for payment, the company informed him that his recruitment agency had already collected his salary.

Feeling frustrated and cheated, he quit the job and secured another one where he worked for a week and the worst happened; he slipped and fell, fracturing his leg which rendered him almost immobile.

He was forced to put up with a well-wisher because he could neither work nor get proper treatment. Having endured a lot of suffering, he turned to a local WhatsApp group where he narrated his woes and appealed to well-wishers in the group to help him return to Kenya.

This is when Hivisasa writer Tagu Korir first highlighted Kiprotich’s plight in Qatar in a bid to rally readers to help out one of their own stuck thousands of miles away in a foreign country.

After the story was published, Korir shared it widely in Facebook groups. A day after Hivisasa published the story, well-wishers came together and created a WhatsApp group to help fundraise. Nandi Governor Stephen Sang was moved upon learning that one of his constituents was suffering in Qatar. He contributed Sh5,000 for his return air ticket.

The money was wired to Kiprotich in Qatar to help him purchase an air ticket. He jetted back to Kenya on April 2, 2019. He was immediately taken to Kapsabet Referral Hospital for treatment on his fractured leg. Governor Sang is taking care of the hospital bill.
