Kalonzo says he is not comfortable with the title since he is a national leader.

Speaking to journalists in Kitui on Wednesday, the former Vice President said referring to him as the Kamba kingpin lowers his stature as a national leader.

“I want to ask Kamba politicians to stop referring to me as the Kamba kingpin, I am a national leader who has the interests of all Kenyans and not a community leader,” Kalonzo said.

Kalonzo said he will not mind being stripped of the Kamba kingpin title so long as he remains a Kenyan leader.

The Wiper leader said such things like kingpins don’t make sense in the modern day politics, adding that leaders are elected based on their values and capabilities to deliver services and not the communities they represent.

Kalonzo has been the Kamba political kingpin and spokesperson for over the past 10 decades.

There are, however, claims that the former Vice President has lost his political fame and that he is no longer the Kamba kingpin.

Some of the Kamba politicians and political analysts note that Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua could be the next Kamba leader owing to his rising political popularity.

Both Kalonzo and Mutua are eyeing the presidential seat in the 2022 general election.
