Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala while campaigning for an ODM candidate in Ugenya, Chris Karan, said the race was between DP Ruto and Raila.

He said voting for an ODM candidate was voting for Raila whereas voting for Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) candidate David Ochieng, was a vote for DP Ruto.

"On my way here, I met two Senators, Murkomen and Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot who told me that my coming here (Ugenya) was a waste of time because DP Ruto had already completed that race.

"They said they were using all means possible to ensure Movement for Democracy and Growth (MDG) candidate David Ochieng wins.

"This by-election is not between ODM candidate Chris and MDG candidate David Ochieng; it is between Ruto and Odinga. When you vote for Chris, you will be voting for Raila and Ochieng for Ruto," said Malala in a video now doing rounds on social media.

This statement from Kakamega Senator now implies that  DP Ruto defeated Raila in his home turf where ODM party has been carrying the day all along.

Pundits say Ochieng's victory could also indicate Odinga's popularity in Nyanza region is gradually waning.

Raila in his campaign trail in Ugenya had urged the voters not to embarrass him.
