The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has now summoned ODM Party Chairman John Mbadi over the attack on Jubilee supporters ahead of the Kibra by-election.
The electoral body has asked Mbadi to appear before its panel to explain what transpired after it emerged that ODM supporters pelted stones at Jubilee’s McDonald Mariga supporters.
The summon came after Mariga filed a formal complainant over the matter. He told the commission that ODM supporters staged violent scenes when he organised a rally on October 12. Mariga and his team alluded that the chaos was well-planned by the ODM insiders.
Mbadi has been hit with a 24-hour ultimatum to respond to the claims levelled against him before he presents himself to the commission’s headquarters on Friday, October 18.
“Take notice that the hearing of the complaint shall be on Friday, 18th October 2019 at 10 am at the commission’s Boardroom, 6th floor… Should you fail to file a response and enter an appearance within the time mentioned above the complaint will be heard and determined in your absence,” said IEBC, as quoted by Citizen Digital.
Jubilee leaders have been asking IEBC to disqualify ODM Candidate Imran Okoth from the mini poll over the chaos. The political outfit has raised concern over the state of affairs in Kibra ahead of the voting day.
