Julia won the gold medal in the 50-meter race at the Senior Games in Albuquerque, held in New Mexico on Monday.

The old and energetic woman completed the race in just 21.06 seconds, setting a new record, for there is no other woman in the said category with the stunning record.

According to the KRQE report, Julia had earlier, two years ago, set a record in the 100-meter dash, where she won by crossing the finishing line in less than 40 seconds, setting up a world record that is yet to be broken.

After the Monday gold medal, she extended her winning culture in the 100-meter dash one day later, which she also won, but could not break her earlier record. She finished the race in more than 46 seconds.

“I thought it would be neat to run at 100 and do the 100-yard dash,” Julia says.

The family of the former teacher revealed that she ventured into athletics when she was as old as 101 years old.

Unlike most runners including Kenyans, Julia does not practise in the fields, she practises by taking care of her trees in the garden.

“I have an acre of land and I have 50 kinds of trees, and I’m working on them all the time,” adds Julia.

She also revealed that she runs to inspire people because it is the running that keeps her body in good health and a mind sharp.

“I hope I’m inspiring them to be healthy and to realize you can still be doing it at this kind of age,” she concluded.
