For the last few days, Deputy President William Ruto has focused more on church amid growing rifts within his own Jubilee party with the coordinated press conferences against his allies intensifying.
For the better part of Friday, Ruto hosted various religious leaders from North Rift where he expressed the need for the country to invest in prayers for well being.
"The Church is the glue that holds our nation together through prayer, intercession and ingraining bonds of unity, peace and love. It is an institution of harmony, deep faith and servant leadership that breeds oneness and a sense of belonging. During a prayer meeting with religious leaders from the North Rift region led by Bishop Maurice Crowley, Sugoi, Uasin Gishu County," wrote Ruton on his Facebook page.
And hours later, on Saturday in Kisumu, the DP, who had never hid his enthusiasm for church, joined several leaders among them Raila Odinga during the installation of Bishop Philip Anyolo as Archbishop to Diocese of Kisumu following retirement of Zaccheous Okoth.
During the function, Dr Ruto emphasized the need for the country to promote churches, adding that they play an integral role in fostering peace. He also gifted the new Archbishop a brand new Pajero.
"As a nation, we must pray for peace and unity. Divisive politics do not have space in our country and that's the way to go. As leaders, let's seek divine intervention and God's blessings all the time," added Ruto.
Last weekend, former Jubilee Vice Chair David Murathe openly dismissed Ruto's chances of succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta, remarks which heightened political temperature within the ruling party.
