The changes in National Police Service are unconstitutional, Rarieda Member of Parliament Otiende Amollo has said.
According to the lawmaker, President Uhuru Kenyatta went against the law after merging the Adminstration police and Kenya Police Service.
Otiende, who has been very vocal on matters of national interest, took to Twitter to share his concerns following the announcement.
Speaking on Thursday, President Uhuru said that the change in uniform is expected to enhance the better visibility of the police among Kenyans as they discharge their daily duties.
The uniforms, which were showcased at the Kenya School of Government, have, however, continued to elicit mixed reactions from different factions.
Otiende was among the leaders who are not impressed with the changes.
The new changes mean that the 39,680 police service and 24,572 administration police will now work together under Deputy Inspector General Kenya Police Service. The President also ordered that all new officers undertake refresher courses before joining the police unit.
Uhuru also ordered Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to ensure that the changes are implemented with immediate effect.
He further issued a directive to the Treasury to take into account the changes in the police service.
