Police in Nyatike Police Station in Nyatike Sub-county, Migori County, has remanded a doctor accused of sedating and raping a patient on December 26.
The suspect is allegedly a medical practitioner at Frontal Medical Clinic in Muhuru Bay Town, from where he is accused of having sexually assaulted the victim.
Confirming the arrest, Nyatike OCPD John Musili said that Tobias Wara Obutu reportedly committed the crime when the victim sought medical attention from the facility.
He added that the doctor took off afterwards, leaving the patient naked before she confirmed that she had been raped at a separate hospital and reported the case to the police.
"When the woman came to her senses, she realised she was naked and alone in the room. She rushed to another hospital which confirmed her fears that she had been sexually assaulted. She reported to the police and a manhunt for the suspect was launched," the police boss is quoted by the Nation.
The victim's relatives have said that the ordeal has left her traumatized and psychologically shaken.
"She is really tormented psychologically after the ordeal. She does not speak much," one of them told the paper.
Consequently, the medical facility has since been closed down after angry residents held protests, calling for action against the perpetrator who is now awaiting his arraignment in court.
