Four people have died in a road accident near Soilo interchange (Nakuru-Njoro turn off) in Nakuru.
Two people died on the spot while two others died while undergoing medication at Nakuru Level 5 hospital.
18 more people are being treated at the same facility where two are said to be in critical condition.
Nakuru OCPD Samuel Obara, said a GK lorry belonging to the Kenya prisons service failed brakes and as a result it hit five other vehicles.
The lorry was transporting maize from Eldoret to Nakuru main prison.
The lorry had two occupants and it's suspected the driver lost control of the vehicle due to the heavy load.
The morning accident caused a heavy traffic snarl-up, especially at Eveready roundabout.
Members of the public milled around the accident scene to scoop maize that had spilled on the road.
The four bodies were taken to Nakuru county hospital mortuary.
