After a period of long silence, Nakuru County Governor Lee Kinyanjui has finally spoken about James Kimani, the man who slaughtered and sold cat meat to samosa vendors in Nakuru town.
Speaking through a phone interview to Hot 96, Kinyanjui said that the number of slaughtered cats claimed by the man is not realistic.
According to the governor, the number of cats in the entire county cannot even be close to 5000 that the man claimed to have slaughtered. He also added that the man is mentally challenged.
"I had some reporting that the person claims to have slaughtered 5000 but the total number of cats even in the whole county cannot get even to a quarter of that. The cat population is not even that high. I would suspect that he is a mentally challenged person," said governor Lee on Friday.
His comments come days after the man was sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to being in the business of butchering cats for seven years.
According to Kimani, he started the business after identifying a gap in the market adding that he was offered a job to deliver the cat meat at a good price.
