It will soon be taking you about 40 minutes to travel from Nakuru to Nairobi and vice versa.
This is because the Lanet Airstrip is being converted into an international airport for civilian use.A flight to or from Nairobi will be a trip of only 40minutes.
Nakuru Governor Lee Kinyanjui said efforts to have the facility start operating are at advanced stages.
“This morning I held a meeting with the Kenya Air Force Commander Major General Francis Ogolla that majored on the upcoming Lanet Airport.
Plans are at an advanced stage to have the Lanet airstrip, currently used by the Kenya Defence Forces, upgraded to an international airport for civilian use,” Kinyanjui said on Tuesday December 18.
The airport is expected to boost tourism and agricultural sectors.
One sector that will highly benefit from the airport is the flower farming and vegetables grown in Naivasha.
According to Major Ogolla, the first civilian plane will take off from the airport.
“Major General briefed us on the timelines and design of the airport where the first civilian plane is expected to take off before the end of next year,” the governor said.
