Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has said that he is yet to appoint his deputy because he is waiting for approval of the County Government Amendment Bill.
Sonko said that he is waiting for the lawmakers to debate the bill and forward the same to the President for assent before naming his deputy
The governor made the remarks when concern was raised by different groups on why he seems to be taking too long to name someone to assist him in the delivery of his duties.
“I will only appoint my deputy once the ongoing legislation on County Government Amendment Bill which is pending before the Senate and National Assembly's mediation committee is concluded and forwarded to the President for assenting,” said Sonko
He added that he decided not to go with his supporters to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) when he was summoned over garbage tender collection because he believes everyone should carry his or her own cross.
He insisted that he will not take advantage of the support he enjoys to stand in the way of corruption. He also promised to continue with cooperation in the cases of graft against his government.
