Obado has since remained opposed to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) nomination of Ayacko to battle out for the seat in the October 8 by-election, terming it dictatorial and undemocratic.

Speaking to the Sunday Standard, Obado maintained that he will not be pressured into backing an 'unpopular' candidate, laughing off the opposition leader Raila Odinga-led party's punishment threats against him.

He accused the party of trying to gag him, maintaining that the threats of action from the block's disciplinary committee are neither justifiable nor effective on him.

“Why would anyone even imagine gagging me for exercising my freedom of choice? There is absolutely no justification. What law have I broken? It is their own imagination, those threats are neither here nor there," he told the paper.

He accused the party of taking its dictatorship to the next level, claiming that it has resorted to pushing area Members of County Assembly (MCAs) into backing Ayacko, whom he says was picked using unorthodox means.

He added that ODM is now planning war on him, alleging that it is planning to implicate him in graft in a bid to silence him and contain his fight.

“They are intimidating everyone on sight, including MCAs. They have scaled up smear campaigns in which they plan to use corruption allegations and social media against me to cajole me into submission. I will not be cowed,” he is quoted.
