The boy died while undergoing treatment at Makindu Hospital on Monday night.

The deceased succumbed to injuries which he had sustained while in school.

Confirming the incident, Makueni county commissioner Maalim Mohammed said investigations had been launched to unravel the mystery surrounding the candidate's death.

Maalim said the deceased who schooled at Maiani secondary school was rushed to Kilome Nursing Home in Emali before he was referred to Makindu for an operation.

"If the boy died of natural course, well and good. We send our condolences to the family. But if not, investigations must be conducted and the cause established," Maalim said.

He said police officers had been sent to the school to investigate the matter since the deceased had injuries.

Maalim assured the boy's family that police will unravel the cause of their kin's death.

"The doctor said the boy had tissue injuries. What we want to know is what caused it, we don't want to speculate. That's why investigations are being conducted," Maalim added.

The body was removed to the same hospital's mortuary.
