On Sunday, Baringo Senator Gideon Moi flew to Meru where he met members of the Njuri Ncheke, a body that brings together members of the Meru Council of Elders.

Although Gideon has not publicly declared that he will contest for the presidency, there and claims that he may vie for the country's top seat and challenge the DP, who is also keen on succeeding President Uhuru Kenyatta when 2022 comes.

The Kenya African National Union (KANU) party which Gideon leads on Sunday announced of his official visit to Meru where it said members of the Meru Elders Council had agreed to support his bid to become president.

"Led by their Supreme Council Chairman James Merianga, Njuri Ncheke members welcomed the Baringo Senator to Mount Kenya region and promised to support him," the party said on Sunday.

Meru is a crucial region in Kenyan elections as the counties that constitute the region boast of over one million registered voters. This figure is crucial to any serious presidential candidate.

Ruto is also not taking chances in Mt Kenya region as he has support form a cross-section of elected leaders who are ready to campaign for him and ensure he succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta.
