Western Kenya leaders allied to opposition leader Raila Odinga have hit back at Sports Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa over his recent attacks on the leader.
Speaking during a funeral service in Musanda, Kakamega county on Saturday, Echesa accused the former Premier of scheming his downfall.
He alleged that he has since promised area leaders to have him sacked in favour of other leaders of the Luhya community.
He added that the Orange party leader had on Tuesday met 17 lawmakers from the Luhya region and Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya, where he vowed to have the changes made.
"Everywhere he goes he is inciting Western leaders against me, advising President Uhuru Kenyatta to sack me on claims that I am an ally of Deputy President William Ruto," he said.
But in retaliation on Sunday, the pro-Odinga team consisting of nominated lawmaker Godfrey Osotsi, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna and Kakamega Senator Cleopa Malala hit back at the minister.
The young leaders faulted the claims, accusing Echesa of disrespecting the veteran politician.
Malala lauded Odinga as the father of politics in the nation and, therefore, deserves respect from the young generation.
Osotsi threatened to table an impeachment motion against the CS should he fail to apologise and refute his remarks in the next couple of hours.
"If Echesa does not apologise in the next 48 hours I will move an impeachment motion against him in parliament," said Osotsi.
The leaders spoke during a church service at the Madeya PAG Church in Hamisi, Vihiga County.
