According to the police, the raid follows complains from area residents who have decried an increase in the number of people purporting to be giving witchcraft services.

The raid which was led by area chief Hassan Guyo saw the officers recover several materials thought to be used for the job, among them snake skins and dead chicken.

The officers also nabbed two suspects said to be operating on lies, claiming that they are Tanzanian nationals with abilities to cure all sorts of diseases.

The chief noted the police suspect that the group has been conning people seeking their services, adding that the operation will proceed until the menace has been wiped out.

“We have received several complaints about the witch doctors, and we will ensure we get rid of them,” he told the Standard.

An area elder narrated a recent complaint by a local who had sought the services of one of the suspects to secure a job, but the latter would become arrogant after his promise failed to materialise, as well refusing to refund the Sh2, 000 payment.

“The man became arrogant and threatened the woman that he would kill her baby using his powers,” he said.

Last year, residents made a similar raid and burnt witchcraft paraphernalia in the area.
