Speaking on Radio Sauti ya Mwananchi's 'Cheche' on Saturday, the Nakuru-based political commentator observed that Raila's move is for the benefit of his supporters.

Njui said having failed to realize his promise to take the nation to Canaan after losing out in 2017 elections, joining the government was the only remaining option.

According to the analyst, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader can now use his closeness to the government to push for the realization of the ideas he had in his campaign Manifesto.

"Raila alipolemewa katika uchaguzi, inaonekana ameamua kuingia serikalini ili afikishe watu wake Canaan, [When Raila was defeated in the elections, it seems he decided to join the government so as to take his supporters to Canaan]," Njui said.

However, Njui noted, the move has its own disadvantage which is already apparent, this being the vacuum he has left in the opposition after his tactical exit.

According to Njui, none of the remaining opposition figures including Amani National Congress (ANC) Party Leader Musalia Mudavadi can fit in the big boots of the former Prime Minister.

"Ni sawa huenda ameamua kutafutia watu wake kwingine, lakini amemwacha nani katika upinzani? [It is ok maybe he has decided to fend for his people from elsewhere, but who has he left his slot in the opposition for]?" Njui questioned.

Months after their truce, Raila was recently nominated the African Union Special Envoy for Infrastructure Development.

Raila has, however, maintained that he remains the opposition chief and will criticize the government whenever there is the need to.
