A court in Eldoret on Friday sentenced a 53-year-old man to life imprisonment after being found guilty of defiling a ten-year-old girl.

The suspect is said to have committed the act on  March 28th 2015.

In her ruling, Eldoret Magistrate Stella Telewa said the prosecution had provided enough evidence to prove that the suspect, Starico Madegwa committed the crime.

Madegwa is a church elder and is said to have committed the heinous act after he ordered his children to go out of the house and told the younger girl to remain behind with him before committing the offence.

He, however, has 14 days to appeal the ruling.
