For the better part of this week, leadership from the expansive region has been meeting to organise for the trip, which was part of the ongoing Building Bridges Initiative.

North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko said the president's decision was informed by the recent territorist attack in Nairobi in which over 20 people died.

"We were all prepared. We had outlined issues for discussion and regions that he was going to visit. However, the current situation cannot allow that's why he postponed to put issues right in security."

At Kisii, Uhuru was set to launch a modern Oncology center besides discussing probability of awarding Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital powers to parner with Kisii University to offer medicine.

But a source who didn't wish to be named, says the President postponed the trip since in Nyamira, there were no immediate projects to be launched.

"Nyamira's predicaments is the reason behind. There is nothing to be launched and the president doesn't want to be embarrassed. That's why they had to postpone," said the source.

It was going to be Uhuru's first trip to Nyamira and Kisii Counties since his re-election in October 2017. Raila's presence was part of ongoing rallies to preach peace and cohesion.
