A headteacher in Kisii County has begged education stakeholders to support learning institutions financially to improve their infrastructure.
Mellen Nyambeki, the principal of St Mary’s Nyamagwa Girls' Secondary while speaking at the school attributed poor performance in various schools across the county to poor infrastructure.
"Some schools across the county have inadequate dormitories, classrooms, libraries and laboratories to accommodate an increased number of children who have joined the schools. Education stakeholders need to support learning institutions financially to improve on infrastructure," she said.
Nyambeki observed that good exam results can be realised if schools are supported.
She further urged local leaders, not to politicise school projects being funded by the elected leaders through the CDF kitty.
“As school heads, we were forced to admit 100% KCPE pupils to form one and this has led to congestion in classes. We, therefore, need funds to build more classrooms to accommodate more students," she stated.
The principal challenged TSC to also employ more teachers due to an increased number of students in various secondary schools.
She pointed out that the school has been among the best performing schools in national exams.
