Uasin Gishu is one of the counties which will experience a hot gubernatorial race in 2022 as the county’s popular governor Jackson Mandago is serving for his last term.
Deputy President William Ruto who will also be in the presidential race hails from this county.
Here is a list of county’s top politicians who are likely to face each other in the gubernatorial race;
Dr Julius Bittok
Kenya’s High Commissioner to Pakistan. Julius Bittok was a lecturer at Moi university before he joined politics in 2013. He vied for Uasin Gishu gubernatorial seat but lost to Mandago before he was appointed to the government job in 2014. Dr Bittok has been traversing different parts of the county even in the company of DP Ruto and his Ambassador Julius Bittok foundation which offers financial support for students from poor backgrounds will be one of his scorecard in 2022.
Zedekiah Kiprop Bundotich
He is popularly known as Buzeki and he is the founder of Buzeki group of companies, a multi-billion company which deals with dairy products. The county tycoon lost to Mandago in 2017 and was recently appointed by the government to chair the board of Chemelil sugar company. Buzeki and his supporters have openly sworn to clinch the seat in 2022.
Dr Swarup Mishra
He is a Kenyan of Asian origin and the owner of Mediheal Group of Hospitals. He is currently serving as the elected Member of Parliament for Kesses constituency. Political pundits have ranked Mishra who is popularly known as Arap Chelulei by the locals as the most performing MP in the county. Mishra has not openly declared his interest for the county’s top seat but his close allies have hinted on his quest in 2022. He will be a force to reckon if he will decide to vie for the governorship.
