A Nairobi resident has filed a petition in the Senate seeking to have Governor Mike Sonko’s government dissolved.
Patrick Kamotho Githinji, a city resident, claims that Sonko’s government has failed on its mandate.
The resident in the petition argues that Sonko’s government has been hit with internal wrangles hence hindering services to city dwellers.
In the petition, Githinji who is also the Chairperson of the Muthurwa Residents Association cites Sonko’s move to operate Nairobi county affairs at his Mua home in Machakos as the reason to why his administration should be dissolved.
He observes that it is unconstitutional for the governor to operate from another county.
He also cites Sonko’s failure to appoint his deputy as another reason why the county should be dissolved.
The resident claims that Sonko's failure to appoint his deputy continues to hurt development.
“I am seeking the Senate's intervention to have the Nairobi County Government dissolved for failing to deliver on its mandate,” Mr Githinji told journalists on Thursday.
Githinji claimed that Nairobians have lost faith in governor Sonko's government.
Governor Sonko is on the spot over his alleged move to operate from his Mua home in Machakos instead of City Hall.
A section of Nairobi MCAs last week gave Sonko two weeks ultimatum to return back to City Hall or face impeachment.
Sonko has however said that he will not set foot at his City Hall office over what he terms as security threats.
