A 70-year-old man from Maraba village in Kenyenya Sub-County, Kisii County shocked villagers after he hanged himself inside his son's house on Tuesday evening.
Kisii Assistant County Police Commander Caleb Matoke confirmed the incident saying the deceased, identified as Mirera Maonda, picked a quarrel with his wife before he ended his life.
"Maonda picked a rope after a heated quarrel with his wife and hanged himself inside his son's house," said Matoke.
Mr Matoke said the man took too long to get out of the house forcing the wife to raise alarm.
"Neighbours stormed the house where they found the body dangling from the roof. No one lives in the house because Maonda's son died four months ago," said Matoke.
He said police officers from Kenyenya police station picked the body and took it to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue.
The police boss decried the increased cases of suicide in the county and appealed to married couples to find amicable ways of solving any issues they may be facing instead of resorting to taking their own lives.
