Siaya Senator James Orengo remains one of the most celebrated and popular leaders in the county after opposition leader Raila Odinga.
Orengo proved this in the concluded election when he defended his seat without campaigning at all, only telling the people to ‘remember’ him as he aids Odinga with his presidential campaigns.
He would have it easy rising to the gubernatorial post in the coming 2022 general elections if he wanted to, especially now that incumbent Governor Cornell Rasanga who would have been his biggest challenge is on his way out.
However, he has to watch out for Rarieda lawmaker Otiende Amollo who could give him the challenge of his life if the two were to face off in the race for Siaya top seat.
The smart and youthful lawyer has, just like Orengo, proven his worth to both his constituents and Odinga, who is the area's ultimate political spokesman, courtesy of his big role in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) successful petition against President Uhuru Kenyatta’s August 8 re-election.
Otiende also boasts of a good development track record from his previous post as the Ombudsman and currently as Rarieda legislator.
His 'Ondoa Nyasi' campaign has made him a darling of Siaya county residents and should he declare his interest in the same with Orengo, the Senate Minority leader will face a run for his money.
The two, if they were to collide, would as well thrown the area locals into a dilemma, since they are almost on the same level and have many things in common and are both in the front line in defending the National Super Alliance (NASA) chief, a darling of the region.
