The growing political wave in the country has been taking politicians closer to the people in the social gatherings especially the church which plays host to millions of Kenyans.
However, West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio says Sunday services have been turned into political duels by politicians
He says that pastors and priest have allowed politics to override the cardinal role of the church which is to preach the gospel.
"Politicians are now preaching in churches and pastors are the observers. We need to change that script," said the former Information Minister on NTV's AM Live show.
Poghisio said that this trend should be tamed because it is a precedent to early 2022 campaigns.
Politicians have lately been seen to be banking on churches to lure the public and solidify their support bases.
Over the last few weeks, politicians have been seen camping in different churches where they propagate different agenda among them the 2022 succession debate and the fight against corruption.
A faction allied to the Deputy President William Ruto and an opposition wing under the banner "Team Kieleweke" has been trading barbs while they attend church services separately.
