Kisii Governor James Ongwae has revealed the reason behind increased land grabbing in Kisii region.
According to Ongwae, lack of land data and improper mapping of lands is the reason behind the increased land grabbing cases in Kisii county.
"We have been witnessing cases of land grabbing across the county because there is no valid data for public land. This has helped land cartels to take advantage to forge documents to claim ownership of public lands," he said.
The county boss confirmed that the county government has put in place measure to ensure land registers are updated and proper mapping of lands is done.
"We have formed a task force comprising of 17 people who will carry out an audit of all public land and give a report to both the County and National governments for action," he stated on Thursday.
He reiterated that public lands grabbed will be recovered once the task force gives a detailed report, land data and proper mapping.
"Cartels who have grabbed lands meant for schools, churches, markets and riparian lands won't be spared once the task force gives a clear report," said Ongwae.
