A section of Shauri estate residents on the outskirts of Eldoret town wants Uasin Gishu government to address the problem of uncollected garbage that has been the order of the day in the area.
Led by Veronica Njeri, the Village Elder of Shauri ‘A’, the locals said the garbage has not been collected for the last one month putting their lives in danger.
"We are not happy at all with the County government as the people who were given the mandate of garbage collection are not doing their job. How can we stay for a month with the uncollected garbage?" she asked.
“It is sad that the garbage is only collected once per month instead of at least once per week, we call on Uasin Gishu County government to replace the workers with competent ones for sanity to prevail,” the Shauri ‘A’ village elder told the press in Eldoret on Friday.
Similar sentiments were echoed by the area Member of County Assembly (MCA) Peter Chomba who said the county had failed in its mandate of garbage collection.
Chomba challenged the governor Jackson Mandago-led administration to up its game by ensuring that the garbage is collected on time to prevent residents from being attacked by infectious diseases.
