Political analyst Alex Manyasi now says that the said widening rift between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto could indeed be an existing case.
Speaking on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha on Monday, the commentator actually said that the case might have been the same for years, only that it's coming out now.
He observed that there are possibilities that the two have never been friends at all, despite twice winning the presidency as a team, and were only brought together by having a common goal.
According to Manyasi, politics being a game of common interests, its very likely that their 2013 union was because they were eyeing a common goal but had no personal touch.
"Sidhani kama 2013 na 2017 walikuwa marafiki. Walishikana tu lakini huenda walikiwa mahasimu (I don't think they were friends in 2013 and 2017. They only united but might have been rivals still)," he said.
"Walishikana tu kwa sababu walitaka kushinda kura (they only came together because they wanted a victory)," he added.
This comes at a time when Uhuru's office has been seen to sideline the DP, two years after securing reelection, thanks to the withdrawal of security details of his allies.
Uhuru had also been reluctant to endorse Ruto's 2022 presidential bid, contrary to his initial promises that he will be in the frontline in campaigning for Ruto as his successor.
