A woman is fighting for her life in Nyamira County hospital after she was allegedly attacked by her son with a panga.
The incident happened on Friday at Nyabomite village Nyameru Sub-Location in Nyamira County.
Area assistant chief Benjamin Orina said the suspect Caleb Omayo attacked his mother Faith Manyara after a heated argument.
"Omayo quarrelled with his mother accusing her of failing to accept his newly married wife. He picked a sharp panga and cut her head," said the chief.
Mr Orina said the victim screamed for help from neighbours.
The administrator wondered why the suspect could force his mother to accept his wife.
"The suspect fled from a home after neighbours stormed the homestead armed with crude weapons. The victim was rushed to Nyamira hospital where she is receiving treatment," he noted.
The chief confirmed that the suspect and his new wife has since gone into hiding.
He appealed to members of the public to cooperate and report the suspect to authorities so that he can be arrested to be charged over assault.
Mr Orina warned youths against attacking their parents noting that parents should be accorded respect.
