The Director of Public Prosecutions will oppose the release of murder suspects Joseph Kuria Irungu alias Jowie and his lover Jacque Maribe.
Jacque Maribe is a senior reporter and news anchor at Citizen TV.
The prosecution will be convincing Justice James Wakiaga that Jowie is a danger to himself as he is likely to kill himself if released from police custody.
“After the incident, Irungu intended to commit suicide by shooting himself and is, therefore, a person who requires close supervision in prison where we have people to give him medical care and offer him counseling,” an affidavit by investigating officer (IO) Maxwell Otieno says.
This is what the prosecution intends to use to convince the court that Jowie needs more days behind bars.
Also, the prosecution argues Maribe is an influential person who can interfere with the case if released on bail.
The prosecution says the journalist has friends and networks in high places.
"Maribe is also an influential person with connections in high offices, which will allow her to interfere with the case, threaten and intimidate witnesses,” the IO said.
