A middle aged man cheated death after he was caught stealing two phone batteries.
It is alleged that the suspect, David Masese, on Saturday sneaked into a shop selling electronics in Chebilat, Nyamira County and stole the batteries when the owner had gone to a toilet.
Area chief Ezekiel Ndege said Masese was caught inside the shop, tried to escape in vain.
"The suspect upon seeing the shop owner he escaped through the back door but, he was nabbed 50 meters way by boda boda riders who responded to alarm," said Ndege.
Mr Ndege said riders rushed to a local petrol station to buy petrol to lynch the suspect but, through good luck community policing officers and him rushed to the scene to rescue the man.
"We rescued the suspect who hails from Ogembo in Kisii County. Upon searching him we found the two batteries which he admitted to have stolen," he noted.
The administrator said the suspect was expelled from the area.
"We went to his house where he packed all his belongings, left to his home and warned him against returning back," said Ndege.
