Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria is one leader who apparently never gets tired of courting controversy.

Whenever he appears anywhere in public to address a particular matter it is unlikely of him to end the address without making a statement that will leave tongues wagging for days.

Kuria, for instance, started this year on a high political note when he accused President Uhuru Kenyatta of sidelining the Central Kenya region in terms of development, something that kept Kenyans speaking for over two weeks.

But as if this was not enough, when the MP was invited for an interview at Inooro TV last Thursday to address the same matter and allegations of making some of his controversial remarks while under the influence of alcohol, Kuria was to make another statement that would even leave his host lost for words.

A few days earlier, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu and the county Women Representative Gathoni wa Muchomba had accused Kuria of making careless statements while intoxicated, statements the TV host asked him to respond to.

"These people are everywhere claiming I have insulted them. Whether I have done it or not, this issue of saying I'm a drunkard and I always talk while drunk, do I drink with your mother? Do not make me angry," Kuria told his host, Kamau Wa Kang'ethe on live TV.

This statement that left a dead silence in the studio for some seconds has since been embraced by a section of revellers, especially in Thika.

Today, visiting many Thika pubs you are likely to hear revellers use the same words especially when they are asked why they have indulged too much, which will just put off the one asking.

In Kikuyu culture, it is very offensive to abuse someone with their mother's name (nyukwa) and this can even lead to a bitter fight between the parties involved.
