There was grief and gloom at Moi International Airport in Mombasa on Friday as the body of a Kenyan doctor who allegedly committed suicide due to frustrations arrived from Cuba.
The body of Dr Ali Juma is expected to be transferred to the Coast Provincial General Hospital for an autopsy.
The family is yet to get results of the first autopsy.
Likoni MP Mishi Mboko, a sister to the deceased doctor, could not hold her tears back as she watched the casket of the deceased being hived off the plane.
Friends, politicians and senior officials of the Mombasa county government were at the airport to receive the casket carrying the remains of the doctor.
The deceased is expected to be laid to rest this afternoon after a prayer service
“Burial [will be] in Shikadabu Likoni after Friday prayers, post-mortem [will be done] at CPGH in the morning. We are doing an independent post-mortem here,” said a family source, as quoted by Daily Nation.
The arrival of the body comes after the government sent a team of experts to assess the situation of doctors pursuing their studies in Cuba to ascertain their living standards.
There are claims that the 50 doctors furthering their studies in Cuba are living in harsh conditions.
