The strike has disrupted flights at the facility amid takeover by the Kenya Airways (KQ).

The Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) has opposed the proposed change in management of the facility.

The workers have expressed their dissatisfaction over the way the management is conducting its activities at the facility including merger plans.

They want their grievances addressed with immediate effect before they can resume work.

According to KAWU secretary-general Moses Ndiema, the workers will not return to work until their plight is addressed.

The workers have also been lamenting over unfair staff hiring and compensation.

“It is only then that workers in this industry will have the confidence that the issues affecting them will be addressed,” Ndiema said as quoted by the Daily Nation.

Some of the entry points have been blocked following the strike leaving travelers in a dilemma.

The takeover plan has, however, been halted by parliament.

The workers' strike has brought together members from different departments including security, cabin crew and air traffic controllers.

KAWU now wants KAA Chief Executive Johnny Andersen and chairman of the board Isaac Awuondo fired alongside their Kenya Airways counterparts.

The merger of KQ and JKIA continues to elicit mixed reactions even after Deputy President William Ruto insisted that it will be a win-win situation for both as well as the general public.
