Mandera Governor Ali Roba has urged President Uhuru Kenyatta not to betray Deputy President William Ruto in the upcoming 2022 general election.
Roba wants Uhuru to stick to the agreement he had with DP Ruto in regards to who succeeds him in 2022.
Speaking in Mandera Town on Saturday during the flagging of relief food to residents, Roba said that president Uhuru promised to support Ruto in 2022.
He said that DP Ruto is the only suitable candidate to take over the country's leadership from president Kenyatta who is serving his last term in office.
"Our appeal is to president Kenyatta and Jubilee Party to stick to the 2022 succession plan earlier agreed on," the second term Jubilee governor said.
Governor Roba said that the country's unity and peace will not be disturbed if Ruto ascends to power in 2022.
Roba heaped praises on DP Ruto, saying he is a true reflection of what leadership entails.
He asked the DP to ignore his critics and continue working with president Kenyatta on development.
The 2022 succession politics continues to take shape as DP Ruto's allies drum for his candidature in the eagerly awaited general election.
A section of Ruto allies are however raising fears over what they term as a plot by critics to block his (Ruto's) 2022 presidential bid.
The Deputy President is banking on Uhuru's support for his 2022 presidential ambition.
President Kenyatta has been quoted saying that his pick on who to succeed him in 2022 will be a surprise.
