Kibera MP Ken Okoth is among vocal and famous politicians in Nairobi County.
The ODM Party MP was first elected in 2013 and is serving his second term.
Okoth has been hailed by Kibera residents for his development projects in education and health sector.
The former student of Olympic primary school, was raised in a humble background and has risen to where he is today.
Okoth and his family used to live in a ‘mabati’ house near the Kibera rail-line.
After his secondary education at the Starehe Boys Center, Okoth used to sell newspapers in offices and estates in Kibera.
“I used to sell newspapers and also doubled up as a night watchman at the Goethe Institute, a German cultural Center in Nairobi, to get money to take care of myself and family,” he said.
The MP says he was forced to fend for his siblings after their father abandoned them while young.
He later won a scholarship to study International Relation Studies in the US.
