President Uhuru Kenyatta landed in the US capital Washington DC amid tragic news of Senator John McCain death on Saturday.
McCain, 81, a war prisoner and veteran, was Arizona senator for three decades before succumbing to brain cancer, his office said.
"Senator John Sidney McCain III died at 4:28 p.m. on August 25, 2018. With the senator when he passed were his wife Cindy and their family.
"At his death, he had served the United States of America faithfully for sixty years," a statement from his office on Saturday.
In 2008, McCain's candidature against Barack Obama, who has strong Kenyan roots, was closely monitored in Kenya during the November polls.
At Obama's ancestral home in a remote village in Kenya, Kogelo, a mock election was held that saw Obama beating McCain by a landslide.
During elections, Obam became the first African-American to win Presidency in the history of America after humbling the vocal Republican senator.
And in Washington DC, President Uhuru Kenyatta is expected to hold bilateral talks with Republican President Donald Trump, who has been a victim of McCain's attacks in the senate on foreign policy.
The Israeli fierce supporter, credited for his participation in Vietnamese war, will be given State send-off both in Phoenix and Washington DC.
